Homemade Headboard Ideas?

Hi! I’d like to make my own headboard. I need some really inexpensive ideas. $50 the most. I am in love with Damask! I thought of making a damask fabric headboard, but I’m really on a budget and thought a headboard decal would be cool.

I found a couple of sites that have “stick to the wall vynal” headboards (basically it’s a huge sticker), but I couldn’t find the style I wanted.

I even thought of a huge wall poster, but I don’t have any great ideas. The room decor is sorta shabby chic. Chic more than shabby. I have a small vintage loveseat in my bedroom, which is the inspiration of the room.

The pattern of the loveseat is greenish gold damask, with sort of a blue reflection. I’m trying to decide on turquoise blue paint for the room, or brown (two walls only, the bed wall and the loveseat wall).

CREATIVE PEOPLE OUT THERE PLEASE RESPOND!!!!! THANKS GUYS!
Thanks guys! Any vinyl wall stcker ideas? Need a quick project. Any ideas on the room color?

Get a piece of plywood in the right size for your headboard. Cover it with foam/batting, then cover this with your fabric.

Attach the headboard to you bed frame with a few screws and a metal strip.

If you purchase carefully, you should be able to do this on budget.

  2. you can totally make your own fabric one. look at thrift stores for a headboard or just get a sheet of MDF cut to the size you’ll need. then buy some foam padding, batting fabric, and the fabric you’d like for the top (maybe a clearance sheet set would work). you can also drill holes into the wood beforehand in a even patter and put fabric covered button through at the end to give it a nice tucked look. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/rm_furniture_other/article/0,,HGTV_3717_1378357,00.html

Oh what fun- The tackboards with the cross-cross ribbons could be used horizonally- just find the right length. Or look up how to make these and use your own fabrics. DIY network in google to start. A wood fence section would make a unique headboard, Tin ceiling tiles (vintage or antique stores)- both these ideas work well with Shabby Chic. Or run into a Hobby lobby and peruse the iasles. Bamboo pulled together with twin and mounted to wall. Canvas sections- paint your own ideas. Painted shutters vertical in varied hts. , flat Garden accessories – like walking stones or trellis’s mounted to wall would look interesting. Get you thinking??

  4. i think a mustard yellow with a tint of green would be pretty for the walls , then you could mix in green accessories, i also happen to love turquoise. for the headboard i would go to home depot buy some crown molding and frame out maybe three or 4 frames above your bed , you could try to take photos and enlarge them things you find of interest( i think since your room is shabby chic may take pix of some cool chandeliers in black and white and frame those, you could also buy cute wallpaper from home depot or lowes they have one that is plain white it reminds me painted tin ceilings you can also paint that
